The theme for this thesis revolves around the problem of child malnutrition and mother’s
Illiteracy in India and how through a well designed info-graphic system, that would be given
to illiterate mothers in Anganwadis, can help reducing the risk of child malnutrition. The focus
of this thesis is on how this information should be supplied in order to be effective and lessen
the problem. The analysis is based on research on the origins of human language, visual literacy,
information design principles, the problem of child malnutrition and mother’s illiteracy in India,
and on the quality of the services supplied in Anganwadis. Furthermore the aim of this thesis
is to prove that women play an important role on child nutrition and how important it is for them
to understand the information that is being supplied in Anganwadis. The application and the
proposed graphical solutions for the problem discussed, are supporting material that may be
applied in Anganwadis around India with direct help of the local state government, Integrated
Child Development Program, non-governmental organizations, nutritionists, doctors and
Anganwadis workers.
